The Project Integrating social dimensions into agri-climate change Adaptations, Project acronym AGRI-CLIMATE, with the Project Code 2022-1-MK01-KA220-ADU-000086031 aims at to integrate social dimensions into agri-climate change adaptations on local level.Climate change is already and will progressively impact people's daily lives in terms of work and livelihoods, health, housing,water, food security and nutrition.

This project aims to involve the farmers from the local communities in the identification ofthe climate change problems and the decision making processes for the adaptation to climate changes. The social involvement of the farmers ensures that the production of the climate change adaptation measures is based on the real needs of the farmers.

The duration of the Project is 24 Months (01/11/2022 – 31/10/2024).

Why this project?

This project aims to directly integrate environment and climate change throughout the development of local strategies that will approach the social dimensions of climate change and agriculture from a sustainable and a equitable development perspective.

Target Group

The main target group of this project are the farmers from the rural municipalities.

But also includes;

  • agricultural professionals, nature resource professionals, local stakeholders, local  action groups, development organizations, local public administration, policy-makers
  • NGOs in rural development and climate changes national organizations, local and national authorities, municipalities, etc.

Impact on the local communities:

With this approach the people from the local communities will become critical actors in the environmental decision-making processes and valued partners in the implementation and monitoring of the environmental policies at the local level.

The effective environmental strategy ensures the participation of all actors in collaborative efforts towards environmentally sustainable development. This kind of environmental strategy involves citizens in the process of the identification, creation and monitoring of the climate change adaptation policies and processes. This project will give the farmers from the local communities a voice and a role in the implementation of the climate change adaptation strategies. The approaches used in the project will imply community acceptance and involvement, and provide direct solutions and action plans to the climate changes issues in the municipality of Rosoman.

The local communities in the region of Tikvesh will be the first ones to experience and learn how to manage unintended social consequences of climate change on municipal agriculture.

 Impact on national level:

The encouragement of the greater collaboration on the local level and the boost of the social dimensions in the climate change adaptation in agriculture and providing opportunities for more integrated ways of working together, provides an imperative in tackling a national issue regarding the agricultural sector. This project directly complements the national and regional climate policies with social impact assessments to properly identify socioeconomic climate change gaps in the agricultural sector. The developed Strategy and Guideline will be offered to other municipalities on National level through The community of of local self-governing units in North Macedonia – ZELS.

 Impact on International level:

The international partners in this project will be able to work directly and experience the activities for the integration of the social dimensions in the climate change adaptation in agriculture, and start initiatives in their communities as well.

Implementation

The activities in the project are:

  • Assessment of the initial social impact to determine and manage the intended andunintended social consequences that climate change has over agriculture at municipal  level,
  • Development of prototype Municipal Strategy for Climate Change Adaptation measures in Agriculture and Integration Guideline for social dimensions into agri-climate change adaptation and learning activities for reduction of the knowledge barriers of the farmers forclimate change adaptation.
